04/04/2017 By Penny Barron Leave a Comment

In Australia, the figure is at around 800,000 who are thought to have post traumatic stress disorder at any given time. Up to ten percent of people are predicted to suffer from this issue at some stage of their lives. I’d like to suggest it’s a little higher than this, since most people with PTSD tend to suffer in silence, and I see this so often in my clinic. The world is actually full of these silent heroes. Day after day they get up, go to work, look after their children, socialise and navigate the potential minefields of their relationships. All the while, … [Read more...] about Invisible Scars: Living With PTSD

There are more and more of these genetic conditions being discovered every day as we explore the intricacies of the human genome  in more detail. As a result, we are beginning to see how these genes are influencing our health on all … [Read more...] about MTHFR: a role for Homeopathy?

Using a natural medicine approach, the homeopath provides treatment which is supportive of the child and parents, and non-judgemental of both. We start homeopathy for childhood behaviour problems with a treatment schedule Any child who has a … [Read more...] about Homeopathy For Childhood Behaviour Problems?

scared child

Awake but not awake, staring blankly, so much more than a bad dream. You will benefit from knowing some practical ways to help a child with night terrors. Night terrors is a term used to describe the panic when your child wakens in an ‘over the top way’ in the first few hours of sleep. There are some practical ways to help a fearful child that without even knowing it, every parent will probably make use of. They will model situations when the child should be fearful and when the child should be cautious. Touching the hot stove top and crossing the road are two examples. Fear is necessary, to keep the child from harm.  However, children can develop fears of situations or objects that aren’t actually threatening. These childhood fears and anxieties may change as the child grows up. Helping the child to deal with fear includes taking their … [Read more...] about Practical Ways To Help A Fearful Child

Crying in Newborns

09/10/2015 By Bernadette English Leave a Comment

crying

One of the main discussions I have had and continue to have with Mums is the issue of crying in newborns. Crying is such an integral part of our being and a very necessary one. We can cry tears of happiness, sadness, rage, relief, disbelief, awe, jealousy, guilt, pain. There are so many emotions that can bring tears to the eyes. We all know that a good cry can bring with it a huge sense of relief and release. Mother nature is clever…..way too clever to perfect something that is so instinctive for it not to be useful and necessary!! Crying is Normal A little … [Read more...] about Crying in Newborns

11/09/2015 By Louise Ross-Campbell 1 Comment

sugar spoon

You don’t need to be eating lollies, cakes, biscuits, slices, muffins, ice cream, and chocolates, or drinking soft drinks to be consuming too much sugar; there are many types of sugar in many types of foods. Health conscious people are attracted to labeling that says ‘natural’, ‘organic’, ‘low fat’ ‘no added-sugar’ but sometimes these food products can have just as much sugar as their processed equivalents. I was always reading labels, checking … [Read more...] about Is There Too Much Sugar in Your Day?
