Uncovering the Truth: Does Breastfeeding Lead to Tooth Decay?

01/09/2025 By Linlee

Cleaning her teeth

If you are a mum who has been told that breastfeeding will ruin your child’s teeth, you are not alone. Many parents hear this from well-meaning health professionals, including dentists. Understandably, this can leave mums feeling anxious and guilty, as if feeding their baby in the most natural way has harmed them. The truth is, breastfeeding does not automatically cause tooth decay. In fact, research shows it may actually help protect your child’s teeth, especially during the first year of life. So why does this myth persist, and what really causes tooth decay in … [Read more...] about Uncovering the Truth: Does Breastfeeding Lead to Tooth Decay?

Echinacea, what is the story behind this powerful herbal bomb?

04/08/2025 By Linlee

Echinacea plant painting by Belinda Elliott

I don’t have to try very hard to get to know the Echinacea plants in my garden. They’re urging me to connect with them so they can give away their healing story. They thrive off helping others. They yell loudly, “Come over here, I’ve got something to share with you.” There’s no holding back information in the world of Echinacea with such an unapologetic commanding voice; they're definitely no fragile little daisy! Having planted the Echinacea from seeds, it's been fascinating to observe the many stages of growth, particularly the number of phases the flower … [Read more...] about Echinacea, what is the story behind this powerful herbal bomb?

Night Terrors and Homeopathy

05/07/2025 By Penny Barron 3 Comments

Sweet Dreams with Homeopathy Those parents who have witnessed their child go through night terrors know exactly how traumatic an experience it can be. You hear your child cry out in that chilling shriek.  You rush in and turn on the light, knowing you can't reach them. You try to bring them gradually out of their unreachable oblivion which seems to last forever. Then your child screams at something just over your left shoulder and you feel your skin prickle, wondering what on earth (or not on earth) it is that your child can see. Because the only thing you … [Read more...] about Night Terrors and Homeopathy

Maintaining your Mojo in Menopause

06/06/2025 By Penny Barron

It’s a bit of a running joke among women, especially mums between mid-thirties to late fifties, and often beyond. Libido? What libido? Hah, try having a libido when you’re working long hours, slogging through the vast majority of the housework and mental load, dealing with kids and all their needs, and then what’s left over maybe goes to your partner (if there is one) in the form of a quick conversation or cuppa as you both rush the kids to their after school activities or grocery shopping or quick dinner cooking etc etc. The daily grind is all-encompassing and … [Read more...] about Maintaining your Mojo in Menopause

Importance of iron for our well-being

10/04/2025 By Sabina Vatter

Why do we need iron? Approximately 1.1 million Australians are iron deficient. Without adequate iron, the body can struggle to produce enough healthy red blood cells, which can result in reduced oxygen delivery and iron-deficiency anaemia causing symptoms such as fatigue, weakness, dizziness and shortness of breath. Results show that 35% of Australian women who are pregnant have anaemia, which is increased to 50% among Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women. Iron is a vital mineral that is crucial for supporting several bodily functions such as immune … [Read more...] about Importance of iron for our well-being

The importance of Muscle Mass in menopause

12/03/2025 By Penny Barron

Last year I drove all the way up to Woodford Queensland to volunteer in the homeopathy tent at the festival.  It was fantastic! But... half-way there, I had to stop for a bush-wee as I got a little caught short (‘scuse my directness, life’s too short to pussyfoot around for these things these days). That wasn’t a problem in itself. The problem I had was that back in the days when I did that kind of thing more often (ahem), I could crouch down and then get back up again no problem. This time, I got stuck. My legs were so weak, I couldn’t push myself back up to … [Read more...] about The importance of Muscle Mass in menopause

Filling in the Gaps: A Homeopath’s Tour of a Dental Technician Lab

08/11/2024 By Linlee

work desk in dental technician office

Filling in the Gaps: A Homeopath's Tour of a Dental Technician Lab Visiting Mike the dental technician was like creeping into a busy cave with a background of noise and lights. There are the occasional grinding sounds, a compressor working and beautiful coloured beams coming from an array of complex digital equipment. It all cries out for a detailed explanation and Mike, who is at home here in his natural environment, is keen to talk. However, the first thing I see is not the powerful computers but it’s the table full of paint brushes and possibly antiquated … [Read more...] about Filling in the Gaps: A Homeopath’s Tour of a Dental Technician Lab

Kate’s Miso Salmon Recipe

08/11/2024 By mikesart22

Miso Salmon

I made this Miso Salmon as the centre piece to a Japanese lunch I made for a group of 8 friends.  It was a huge hit for something relatively simple.  I served it just warm with sushi rice seasoned with Fume Furakaki, (a nori & sesame seasoning you can buy at Woolies these days).  We also had little salty edamame beans and pork gyoza (dumplings) to start.  Everyone loved it, super filling but also really light.  Made sure there was plenty of sake as well! Salmon nutritional value Great source of protein and inflammation reducing Omega 3 fatty … [Read more...] about Kate’s Miso Salmon Recipe

Penny’s gluten free bread recipe

14/10/2024 By Penny Barron

Gluten Free Bread

I’ve been asked for the recipe for the bread I made yesterday so I’ve written it down for everyone. Here it is!     This is one I like to make grain free and depending on which flour you use, it makes a fabulous textured bread. I use a combination of different flours that end up being better to work with than one on its own. Some of the flours you could use include: Cassava Tapioca Almond Teff Sorghum Millet Tigernut Plantain It can also be great to use with your garden variety gluten free flour. 3 cups of … [Read more...] about Penny’s gluten free bread recipe

Children and bedwetting: What can parents do to help?

01/10/2024 By Penny Barron

bedwetting

Bedwetting can be upsetting and the practicalities of washing the bedding can take up a lot of time especially for parents who lead such busy lives. Wetting the bed at night (nocturnal enuresis) is very common in young children. In fact, it is normal up to the age of five years and eventually it does pass! All about bedwetting Almost half of all three-year-olds and about 10% of five-year-olds wet their bed It is somewhat more common in boys than girls Children who wet the bed often have no physical or great emotional problems Bedwetting can become … [Read more...] about Children and bedwetting: What can parents do to help?
