Impetigo is a contagious skin complaint known as ‘school sores’, which is caused by staphylococcus and/or streptococcus. It might start with tender red spots around the mouth which turn into little blisters which later go crusty.
In our homeopathy clinic, it’s a frequently asked question:
Can we use homeopathy for impetigo?
Since it’s such a common complaint it’s a relief to know that homeopathy is commonly used to treat it.
Treatment should be started as soon as it’s realised that the skin problem is impetigo. The first homeopathic remedies we think of are Ant crud 6c or 30c twice a day as well as a dose of Hep sulph 200c every second day. There are so many children helped with this little regime that we put aside the usual very individualised selection process for homeopathic remedies and we encourage parents to jump in with this treatment as soon as they can. An appointment is a good idea for individual attention if the regime doesn’t start to help within a few days.
Practical tips
- As obvious as it may sound, avoid touching the area or applying ointment without gloves
- Keep fingernails short
- Apply Goldenseal ointment to the affected area three times a day and if possible, cover with a dressing
- Seek medical attention if the sores are spreading like wildfire or getting worse despite at-home treatment
Success Story – De Anne
De Anne about used homeopathy to treat her son’s extreme case of impetigo. After consulting with clinic practitioners, she treated him with an individual version of the commonly-used regime. The results were faster than what would normally be expected.
Hello Linlee, Firstly I would like to thank you for your advice & expert guidance to help me treat my son’s impetigo. Jenson is currently one month shy of his 2nd birthday and was experiencing two-year-old molar pain. This went on for three days with excessive dribbling which led to some spots on his chin. He woke on the Wednesday morning to spots not only on his chin but his arms, legs, hands & feet. Initially it looked liked hand foot & mouth however, after medical diagnosis with our GP he confirmed it was impetigo. The GP recommended antibiotic cream (Bactroban) and antibiotics to orally take also.
As we are currently managing Jenson’s leaky gut, antibiotics was the last thing I wanted to put in his already fragile digestive system. Below is the homeopathic treatment regime I followed after our discussion which cleared his impetigo without a trace of a mark within 4-5 days. I did not mind using the Bactroban antibiotic cream but did not want the oral antibiotics.
Day 1
– Strep/Staph 10M homeopathic remedy (the whole family took this as prevention) 2 doses of 5 drops each
– Bath with 10 drops of Tea Tree Oil & Bicarb soda 1/3 Cup
– 2 x Applications of Bactroban and 2 x Applications of the Golden Seal cream (these creams were alternated throughout the day)Day 2-5
– Ant crud 200 (5 drops twice a day)
– Bath with 10 drops of Tea Tree Oil & Bicarb soda 1/3 Cup
– 2 x Applications of Bactroban and 2 x Applications of the Golden Seal cream (these creams were alternated throughout the day). The results were amazing as the Dr had advised us it would take approximately 10 days to heal with the oral antibiotic. But within 24 hours of homeopathic treatment we had managed to halt the progression of the spots & the existing spots matured over night healing rapidly. All the spots dried quickly. At day 3 they were all scabs and day 4 they were pale pink scars and day 5 they had basically disappeared.
This is such as great result as I have been working very hard with his diet to get his digestion on track. The last thing I wanted to do was give him oral antibiotics that would have reversed all my hard work.
Thank you once again. This is another confirmation for our family on the power of homeopathic remedies and how there is a choice when managing illness.
Have a great week.
Kind regards,
De-Anne
