What We Do
Natural Health Care at the Harbord Homeopathic Clinic in Sydney
At our clinic, we have a balanced approach to natural health care, using Homeopathy alongside other elements of natural medicine. We take into account factors such as personality, lifestyle and hereditary factors as well as the history of the health problem.
Clinical research about homeopathy
The Harbord Homeopathic Clinic has a strong interest in clinical research about homeopathy and the collection of data to inform this research. Our clinic supports The Aurum Project for homeopathic medical research by providing space, manpower and administrative support.
What is the Aurum Project?
The Aurum Project is an Australian facility for homeopathic medicine research with a mission to promote research into the use of homeopathic medicines for childhood health and behavioural problems.
Natural Health Care for Parents and Baby Care
There are some parents who appreciate an alternative approach to health care problems for themselves and their babies. From conception to birth and all through that first special year, parents bring their babies to our clinic with common problems such as colic, reflux, teething, sleeping issues and breastfeeding problems. We provide natural health care support for these problems.
Children’s Health
At the Australian Homeopathic Medicine Conference 2012, there was a paper presented by Cindy Lane titled: "Exploring the current healthcare choices made for young children in south east Melbourne." The survey of parents of preschool children found that they thought many health issues were suitable to be treated by alternative health care including: rashes, allergies, emotional issues, coughs, colds, sleep problems and nutritional deficiencies. At our clinic, we provide natural health care support for these problems.
Freedom in Movement
In counselling sessions with children at school age, developmental movement therapy is included, which is a holistic approach that works through movement and integration of the senses to support learning abilities. Therefore, this therapy is recommended for children with learning difficulties, fine motor difficulties, hyperactivity, social issues, among others.
Teenager’s Health
In the clinic, we respect teenagers for who they are. We appreciate their idealism, enthusiasm (or lack of it) and their energy (or lack of it). We understand that younger teenagers are learning to respect the capacities of others and themselves, and to know their limits. In older teenagers, we love their insights into the ways of the world and the ways to change the world.
We are happy to see teenagers and provide natural health care support for their problems including acne, anxiety, digestion problems, teenage depression, asthma, eating problems and sleeping difficulties.
Women’s Health
Over a span of twenty five years, our clinic has seen a growing number of women seeking help with reproductive health problems, menstrual disorders, mood disorders, menopause, pregnancy and childbirth. This sensible development of the use of natural remedies is happening across the world and there is a body of research to support its effectiveness.
Time to Talk
Our consults allow time to talk and explore the source of the healthcare problem. Very often healthcare problems are caused or aggravated by lifestyle factors such as diet, lack of exercise and poor sleep. Health problems may arise from emotional strains in the family or the work situation and suburban isolation: “I’ve never mentioned this to anyone before.” After their consult, it is common for people to say that they were really listened to.
Men’s Health
We see a growing number of men coming to the Harbord Homeopathic Clinic bringing their children for a consult or making an appointment for themselves. They talk about how stress, their mood, anxiety, fatigue, work, skin, headaches, sleep problems, gastric reflux, blood pressure, urinary and prostate problems, fertility, injuries and so on are effecting their health and happiness. We provide natural health care support for these problems.
Statistics show that men have a reluctance to seek help with health problems. This may partly be due to the way that men in Western Cultures are raised, “It’s just a flesh wound.” “I’ll be OK”. We would like to think that the men, who come to the Harbord Homeopathic Clinic in Brookvale, are part of a trend to overthrow these statistics.
Decision making about family health choices is just one of a dads many roles. Another important role is to have the vitality to have fun with their kids and encourage “rough and tumble” play which helps develop their physical and emotional potential.
The biggest reason that we love it when the dads turn up for a consult for themselves is because we want to help keep them healthy enough so that the effects of work hours, stress and health problems don’t limit their ability to have time to enjoy playing with or just hanging out with their kids, being a dad.
Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis (HTMA)
HTMA is a safe, scientific and non-invasive pathology test. It measures minerals found in hair and gives health information often not revealed in standard blood and urine tests. HTMA is one of the most valuable screening tests because minerals are essential for growth, healing and wellbeing. Ideally we should get all the minerals we need from a balanced diet. Unfortunately today this is compromised due to modern farming techniques and depleted soils which both reduce the mineral content of foods. Environmental pollutants, chemical food additives and stressful lifestyles also have a detrimental effect on our nutritional status. Many health conditions are aggravated by mineral imbalances and toxic metal excesses. These may include cardiovascular disease, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, migraines, learning difficulties, autism and hyperactivity in children, to name just a few. www.interclinical.com.au
Travel: Natural Health Care
Homeopathic preparations are particularly suitable for use while traveling because it is easy to learn how to use them and they are easy to administer. The remedies are compact, light and have a long shelf-life.
A good guide to learning how to use homeopathic remedies for travel health is the book “Homeopathic Guide for Travelers” by Roy and Lage-Roy. It covers many conditions as diverse as: sunburn; motion sickness; upset tummies; tick bites; ear infections; jet-lag and so on. It's especially good for people going trekking or going to visit Asian countries. The wonderful thing about this book is that it covers many tropical disease conditions found in countries where during travel or trekking you may be far from medical assistance. You can purchase it in our online shop.
