Repertory of the Homoeopathic Materia Medica and a Word Index* (Kent)

Product Details
Author: Dr James Kent
Second hand book: second hand book all proceeds go to homeopathy research in Australia

This is the classic essential repertory for a starter in homeopathy by the master homeopath Kent. The repertory of Homeopathic Materia Medica by James Tyler Kent became the standard and remains so until this day. Kents Repertory belongs on the bookshelf of every practicing homeopath or student. Though repertories such as Synthesis have corrected errors and improved content, Kents opus remains viable to this day since first published in 1897. Kent published this massive guidebook on human ailments and their associated homeopathic remedies, Repertory of the Homeopathic Materia Medica and a Word Index---called repertory of homoeopathic medicines.

James Tyler Kent (1849–1916) was an American Doctor best remembered as a forefather of modern homeopathy. In 1897 Kent published a massive guidebook on human physical and mental disease symptoms and their associated pseudoscientific homeopathic preparations entitled Repertory of the Homeopathic Materia Medica, which has been translated into a number of languages. It has been the blueprint to many modern repertories used throughout the world and even remains in use by some homeopathic practitioners today.

Hard back book 1,500 pages.

Kent had more than 40 yrs of medical practice and over 30 yrs of teaching experience .

  1. He was the only homoeopath who contributed vastly to the system in the three fields-Philosophy,Materia Medica and Repertory.
  2. His work of the Repertory is more systematic than any previous authors-systematically indexed.
  3. He created portraits of remedies eg:Sulphur as “the ragged philosopher.”
  4. Later M.L TYLER his student, further developed his ideas of constitutional pictures of remedies and wrote a book ‘Homoeopathic Drug Pictures’
  5. Kent is remembered for his observations - ‘KENTS 12 OBSERVATIONS’ in his Lectures on Homoeopathic Philosophy.
  6. PIONEERED THE USE OF HIGHLY POTENTISED REMEDIES (200c and above)
  7. ADVOCATED POTENCIES MADE ON CENTESIMAL SCALE
  8. LAID THE IMPORTANCE OF MIND SYMPTOMS IN CHRONIC CASES
  9. THEORY OF OCTAVES. He discovered that just as there are octaves of musical tones, so there are octaves in simple substances, through which it is possible to correspond with the various planes of the interior organism of the animal cells. These planes correspond to 30th, 200th, 1M, 10M, 50M, CM, DM and MM potencies.
  10. Single medicine prescription.
  11. Wait and watch principle, which he adapted from the 4th edition of Organon (No repetition of dry dose till improvement from previous dose stopped completely.
  12. Kent inspired lots of students, one of them being the recent Dr.George Vithoulkas.
