Give Birth Like a Feminist: Your Body. Your Baby. Your Choices (Milli Hill)*

Product Details
Author: Hill
Second hand book: all proceeds to natural medicine research

Birth is the feminist issue. It's the feminist issue nobody's talking about.

It's time to look again at the balance of power in the birth room.

Pregnancy should be one of the most rewarding times of your life – but so often it's filled with anxiety and uncertainty over what you can, or should, expect.

Milli Hill explores the history of birth through a feminist lens, and explodes the outdated conventions that mean women still aren't getting what they want and need during their pregnancy.

Discover the different types of birth out there, how to decide between them, and the best questions to ask to ensure you get the birth you choose.

Packed with practical advice on everything from birth plans to dealing with doctors and doulas, this calls-to-arms is the only guide you need to stand and deliver, and get the birth that's right for you.

About the Author

Milli Hill is a freelance journalist, and the founder of the Positive Birth Movement, a global network of over 450 free to attend antenatal groups - linked up by social media. She is a columnist for Telegraph Women, a regular contributor to Mother&Baby magazine, and also writes for Guardian, ipaper, GoodtoKnow, and many others.

Her first book, The Positive Birth Book, has been a bestseller since publication in March 2017. Milli has become a global spokesperson for women's experience of childbirth, and is invited to speak regularly at conferences and events across the UK and beyond. She lives in Somerset with her partner and three children, aged 11, 8 and 5.

Industry Reviews

'I feel so lucky to have read Milli's book while pregnant, she completely changed my way of looking at giving birth' Ella Mills, author of Deliciously Ella

Milli is a compassionate and passionate writer who puts women squarely at the heart of her endeavours.' Emma Barnett, Woman's Hour

'Milli Hill is one of our very favourite birth writers. Birth has been overlooked by feminists for too long, in spite of the injustices happening in the labour ward. This book is a rallying cry for women everywhere to take charge of their births and recognise their own autonomy at this pivotal moment in their lives. Everyone should read it and look at the experience of childbirth through a feminist lens.' Ricki Lake, Producer and Abby Epstein, Director: The Business of Being Born

'Whether a person is considering giving birth or not, Milli Hill's exploration of childbirth as a central feminist issue is a must-read. I loved this book!' Soraya Chemaly

'Everyone should read this awesome book! The world has changed and Milli Hill connects the dots in a way that can change minds and improve outcomes.' Tina Cassidy

'Finally. Someone brave enough to say the words "feminist" and "birth" in the same sentence in a book that is not an academic polemic.' Hannah Dahlen

Praise for the Positive Birth Book

'I only wish I had read this when I was pregnant. Full to bursting with useful stuff!' Sarah Turner, The Unmumsy Mum

'The Positive Birth Book takes expectant parents through the maze of information and choices, in a down to earth, practical, empowering, reassuring way. I highly recommend that you put your feet up, relax and enjoy preparing yourself for the birth of your baby by reading this great book.' Sue Atkins, ITV This Morning Parenting Expert

'Seriously sound, straight-from-the-hip advice.' Mother&Baby Magazine
