Traditionally Gelsemium has been used to assist with symptoms of the flu and other ailments which present with aches and pains and a strong feeling of heaviness, drowsiness and listlessness. The patient may also look and feel droopy, with heavy, drowsy eyes. Trembling, chills and heat up and down the spine, flu symptoms with aching muscles.

It may also be helpful for symptoms related to anticipatory anxiety, fear, stage fright and exam nerves where there is a feeling of paralysis (mental and emotional, as well as a sense on the physical) from the situation. Similar symptoms may present after shock or fright. Also indicated for nervous excitement and that feeling of paralysis before events such as public speaking and even going to the dentist (!),­ with frequent urination or diarrhoea­.

Worse for anticipation, humid weather, surprises.

Better for urination, sweating.
